Old Crossleyans' Cycling For the more athletic and energetic, a small group of members also run an unofficial, sporadic and ad hoc cycling group. Local summer evening rides, occasional longer weekend runs and trips to ride at Manchester velodrome are organised.
The evening rides are generally between 15 and 25 miles and vary from 2 to 3 hours, generally beginning at about 6 PM. Wherever possible main roads are avoided and 90% of the ride will be on quiet unclassified roads. They are therefore suitable for either road or mountain bikes. These rides are open to anyone, new or old, although admittedly there is a tendency to be over represented with the latter. Anyone under 45 will be considered to be a member of the youth section. These rides are social occasions and not races and no one is ever left behind even those with no mechanical aptitude whatsoever.
The trips to the velodrome are limited to a maximum of 15 people and occur more frequently in spring, autumn and winter. The cost of these trips is about £9-00 per person for one hours riding. Bikes and instructors are included in the price. Notices of events will appear on the club notice board.
